We are proud of our legacy and excited about the future, as we continue working together to turn our collective dreams and yours into reality.

It is my pleasure to recommend Doug Thornton/AERC, one of your own Hernando firms, to provide design and architectural services for DeSoto County Schools. I have had quite a bit of experience with Doug and his firm over the past few years… When the Twin Creeks Technologies Solar Cell manufacturing project was announced for the City of Senatobia in 2010, I called Doug and asked him to serve as the City of Senatobia’s Project Manager/Owner’s Representative. Hiring a professional was the BEST move we made for coordinating and tracking the first $25 million in building design, construction and equipment purchases that were administered by the city of Senatobia. Doug was instrumental in keeping this project on track, on budget and on time. He made us look good!

To a person, all AERC team members are helpful and seem to ‘get us’. The longer we’ve worked together, the better your team has grown to know us…to know what we like, what we must have, what we’re prone to overlook, where are our pressure points and pricing concerns, etc. This stuff might sound vanilla, but it’s very important to folks like us who have had much to build and accomplish and must do so within a fairly tight budget. The AERC team communicates well with our team and has helped ensure that we’re giving those we serve a beautiful, quality, and functional product. Both residents and their families love these places! Lastly, I return to “get us.” Y’all simply understand what we’re about. Y’all appreciate mission-oriented work. We’re a nonprofit. We’re faith-based. Our homes; what we need from them design-wise – isn’t standard or typical. Y’all now understand the persons we serve and what that means too. Y’all account for all this. Someone reading this might scratch their heads…what’s he trying to say. Your team reads this…and they will get it. That’s the point.

The Como Historic Preservation Commission and Como citizens extend a heartfelt thank you to AERC for your many hours of hard work in drawing the façade reconstruction plans for the Historic District of Como, Mississippi. We also appreciate your concern and understanding of Como’s unique historic character. You clearly share the Commission’s goal in recognizing what is worth preserving. Most importantly, you have given us a detailed, well researched architectural plan of how to preserve this historic 1898 building.

It was a pleasure working with the team at AERC. They proved good listeners, and were able to put our vision and needs on paper. Even with a limited budget, they gave us an end result that we are thrilled with. I’d wholeheartedly recommend them to other churches considering a building project or renovation.

I remember reading a story many years ago about a brick layer who was laboring on a beautiful cathedral in London. Someone passing by asked him what he was doing. Instead of saying that he was just laying bricks, he replied, ‘I am building a cathedral where many thousands of people will worship God for centuries to come.’ That is the way it is with all of the buildings you have designed on our campus. They are so much more than bricks and mortar, and what occurs in those buildings will have a positive and lasting effect on students, their families, and the communities in which they live for generations to come. Thank you for going the ‘extra mile’.

Doug is a native Mississippian, a graduate of the Mississippi State University School of Architecture, and most importantly for you, he is a resident of DeSoto County and has children in the school system. If AERC is selected as the design firm for the DeSoto County Schools, I am confident that you will have a great experience with the design and implementation of your plans. AERC has continued to assist the City of Hernando with small and large projects in the last 10 years. We certainly hope to use AERC in the future.

On behalf of the board of directors for DeSoto County Farm Bureau, we have been thrilled working with AERC on our new Southaven office. From the original meeting through the final walkthrough, AERC’s team has been a phenomenal in implementing our vision for the new office. As a custom home builder, I know firsthand how difficult picking out selections can be. The ladies at AERC listened to our wants, and did a fantastic job helping make selections that tied in our rustic ranch style exterior with a bold and modern interior. The attention to detail by AERC throughout the entire project was fantastic. We are so thankful we chose to work with AERC on our new Southaven office!
